So glad you’re here! I am a modern calligrapher based in the beautiful city of Edinburgh. I specialise in all things wedding - calligraphy for invitations, envelopes, place-cards, table plans, personalised gifts and venue signage. I also collaborate with brands to provide on-site calligraphy services, personalising products on the day to make an event extra-special! I teach modern calligraphy workshops for beginners in and around Edinburgh too - hopefully we can return to this ASAP once social distancing is done!

I'm Kirsty

the very pale hands behind Olivia Hope Calligraphy, a brand I named after my niece.  I took a 2 hour class in London in 2016 to polish up my already "swirly" handwriting for my upcoming wedding, hop to 5 years later here I am writing an about me on my own calligraphy website!

In 2017, after taking a long calligraphy break after my wedding, I started up again, writing every day, and with a push from my friends set up a dedicated Instagram.  Before I knew it collaborations and commission requests were popping into my DMs and I've had the opportunity to work on some amazing projects.

I began teaching in early 2018 and am currently hosting workshops in Edinburgh to teach and inspire others. I can't wait to hear where the calligraphy journey will take my students! I hope we can head back to classes soon once restrictions allow.

My calligraphy style is organic, modern and effortless, in that it's a slightly prettier version of my regular handwriting.  I avoid any rules and conventions of traditional calligraphy and try to keep the ink free and flowing.  My style is adaptable depending on the commission and it often varies depending on my chosen implement.  

When I’m not destroying my nails with ink, I’m a marketing and communications designer with a lovely architecture practice in the west end of Edinburgh.
